Lyons Fire’s Newest ALS Unit

Lyons Fire Protection District proudly announces the launch of its newest addition to its emergency response, Unit 4021, a 4-wheel-drive Advanced Life Support (ALS) transport ambulance providing paramedic service to the residents and visitors to Lyons and the surrounding area.

After almost two years of research, work, and preparation, LFPD 4021 was placed into service on May 13th, 2024. LFPD currently cross-staffs the ambulance with the on-duty Engine crew as well as a certified Paramedic. 4021 is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year with a combination of full and part-time employees. The addition of the ambulance and 24/7 Paramedics dramatically improves the service capability of the Lyons Fire Protection District, which has been offering BLS service since the 1970s.

Key features of the new Lyons Fire Protection District ambulance include:

1. Advanced Life Support Equipment: The ambulance is equipped with the latest medical equipment and technology to deliver advanced life support services on the scene, including the LUCAS Chest Compression System, multiple therapies for pain management, advanced diagnostic capabilities, and Lifepak cardiac monitor/defibrillators.

2. The Braun/Northstar/Ford chassis is a four-wheel drive with adjustable air ride suspension that should provide access to all but the most remote portions of the District and can accommodate 2-4 patients depending upon the severity of the illness or injury.

Chief Rob Stumpf, Lyons Fire Protection District, expressed enthusiasm about the new level of service, stating, "Our mission is to provide the highest level of emergency medical services to the residents of Lyons and surrounding areas. The introduction of ALS transport capability to Lyons will significantly improve response times and represents a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to excellence in patient care and community safety."

The Lyons Fire Protection District extends its gratitude to all of our partner agencies, current & former staff, and the community for its continued support. It looks forward to serving residents with the utmost dedication and professionalism.
